Our Story

The Char Baby concept came to me during a break between owning busy suburban cafés and I was looking for a new challenge. I’ve been a chef for more than 20 years and worked in some amazing places, among them as a private chef in Switzerland, Turkey, and Greece. Travel inspires my palate. The world is an amazing and big place and if I could travel to a different destination every time I felt hungry, I would be the happiest woman in the world. That’s how I feel about food. I want spicy, sour, sweet, soft, salty, smooth, crunchy, chewy, juicy…chin wipe-ingly delicious…I want the world on a plate!

So, I created Char Baby as a food truck – a Moveable Feast. Yes, we do. We substitute a menu on both the Stand Up Feast and the Moveable Feast to suit the
needs of guests. We make it separately and serve it separately to the number of guests the host has
allocated.

No, we do not, we are food, linen for the buffet table, ceramics, and platters needed for the table.
We can hire on your behalf.

Yes, we do hire a simple setting for guests for sit-down service. The linen we hire from a hire
company. Disposables can be provided as part of food costs, these are 100% biodegradable.

Yes, we provide dinner napkins and cocktail napkins depending on the service.

Generally, we arrive 1to 1.5 hrs before food service. This depends on event numbers, food service
schedule & arrival of bridal party if a wedding.

Generally, we arrive 1 hr prior, food service is approx 1.5 hrs, then pack down is 45 mins to 1 hr.

Yes, it is. Brisbane’s basic call-out is $300, outer Brisbane events will be calculated on request.

Staff are all on-call casual and are paid for travel to the event, duration of the event, and return. Generally, it is
a 4-hour minimum, unless discussed.

Yes absolutely! We will pack them into disposable trays or into your own food containers.

Yes, you can have a combination of both menus.

Yes, you can request items that are not on the menu. Nicole is also happy to create a tailor-made
themed menu for your occasion. This can be done with a consultancy fee of $150. You will have
a choice of 2 styles of dining, Stand Up or Shared. You will have 3 changes to the menu.

We are fully self-contained to an extent. We have a generator, however, if there is music or a
wedding it may be better to use our cables to plug into 2 stand-alone power outlets.
We may need access to water if there are large numbers of seated guests for washing up to wash
hire plates.

We travel at most 150km maximum, depending on numbers and event from base unless discussed.

We require a flat parking space with no overhead branches. The truck dimensions for clearance are
5.5m x 2.5m wide with servery x 3.4m high.

No. Due to public liability insurances and knowledge of food service we can only use our own staff.

Yes, we do have RSA trained staff to serve alcohol and also a resident mixologist to pour a cocktail menu. Alcohol must be purchased by the host over 18.
